Clark Kent Ain’t Got Shit on Me

First of all, props to Marty for this amazing idea of having a weekly update/micro-blog for each member of the Valhalla team.

There’s an on-going theme in Valhalla where we compare ourselves to superheroes. We recognize the injustice in the world and go full-force at fighting to change it. It also takes a superhuman personality to get all of this stuff done. Recently, I find that those aren’t the only traits the others and I share with superheros. Just like the good ol’ farm boy, Clark Kent, and other heros, I find myself living a double life.

By day I work as a web developer at a small web firm. By night I use my super-web-dev skills to help team Valhalla with their online mission.

After work I train as an aspiring strongman at Montreal’s one and only strongman gym and use that strength to do extreme gardening at the Valhalla land tossing logs and shit. I also eat like a pig. The food bill is currently breaking my bank, but it also motivates me to grow as much food as possible at Valhalla next season.

Between all of these things I find it hard to keep up with friends and family. However, that’s not a sacrifice I’m willing to make. Like any good superhero, when the villain offers up a choice, I don’t choose between saving the world and saving my loved one – I must kick it into high gear and save both, because there’s no compromise for a superhero.

It’s a tough gig, but someone has to do it. And we’re not about to wait around for the Avengers to save the day.
